It is always good to keep updated with your GPD XD firmware. With each update comes fixes or optimizations to the firmware which allows you to operate a more stable device. Some updates may even offer new features.

This tutorial also helps to just start over from scratch and get rid of any bad settings or possibly any virus or malware that may have infected your GPD XD. It can also bring back to life a bricked GPD XD.

Update or install firmware using Update App

This is referred to as a "Dirty" flash. Using the Android Tool is the preferred method. This method is generally used by people with no access to a PC.

You can only use this method if you do not have a custom recovery installed. If you do not know if you have a custom recovery, odds are that you do not and you are OK to use this method.

You can use this method if you want to keep your apps and data. Just skip the factory reset at the end of the instructions. ( It is not recommended )

Preparation

  1. Make sure you read over site disclaimer. [ Link ]
  2. Download XD Rescue Disk ( software package ) [ Link ]
  3. View the attached video at least once before you follow the tutorial.

Flash Firmware

  •  Download and place the firmware or the update file into your internal memory. ( Inside GPD XD not your MicroSD card )
  • Start the "System Update" app. ( The one with the blue icon )
  • Select "Offline Upgrade".
  • [ Firmware Selection ] Your firmware or update should be listed. If it is not you did not put the firmware file in the right location or you do not have the right file. Tap on "System Update".
  • Select "Upgrade".
  • It will reboot to android recovery and start to flash the firmware/update. Once it finishes it will reboot on its own.
    • If you used an "Update" it will ask you to delete the file. This is up to you, but know if you do not delete the update it will keep asking you each time you boot up.
  • If you updated to a new firmware I strongly recommend to perform a factory reset but it is not required.
